Galaxy S23 Smart phone  release date, price, specifications

Like every year, The Galaxy S23 and its Plus and Ultra versions will take over from the Galaxy S22 series . These newcomers to the most popular premium range of the Android ecosystem are still eagerly awaited: will we be entitled to a timid evolution or to big changes and innovation? Discover the answer to this question in our large file dedicated to the Galaxy S23

Galaxy S23 Release Date

Samsung follows a very specific schedule when it comes to the release of smartphones in its main series. Since the manufacturer no longer participates in the MWC in Barcelona, where it used to present its new models at the end of February for marketing in March, the South Korean manufacturer makes its Galaxy S systematically available in February. As a reminder, the Galaxy were presented at an Unpacked conference on February 9, before hitting stores on February 25.

However,Samsung could well bring forward the release of its next Galaxy S23.Next year, the three new models could well arrive in the first weeks of 2023, in January. This would fit with announcements from Qualcomm, which has already planned to hold its next Snapdragon Summit conference in mid-November, rather than early December. Like other manufacturers, Samsung will therefore likely have access to chips earlier than in previous years.

According to a poster from the Korean operator KT, the smartphones would be presented from December 23 (or even the day before), before being available to all in stores on January 6, 2023. It remains to be seen whether this leak is confirmed.

Galaxy S23 Price

While waiting for the officialization of prices by Samsung or a reliable leak from a reseller, we will have to settle for the prices of the Galaxy S22 to get an idea of those which will potentially be practiced for this new generation:

  • Galaxy S22 (8GB RAM/128GB storage):  €859
  • Galaxy S22 (8GB RAM/256GB storage):  €909
  • Galaxy S22+ (8GB RAM/128GB storage):  €1,059
  • Galaxy S22+ (8GB RAM/256GB storage):  €1,109
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra (8GB RAM/256GB storage):  €1,259
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/256GB storage):  €1,359
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/512GB storage):  €1,459
  • Galaxy S22 Ultra (12GB RAM/1TB storage):  €1,659

Knowing that the euro has lost a lot of value against the dollar in recent months, we can expect Samsung to adjust its prices upwards in the European market for the Galaxy S23, as Apple did for its iPhones.

Galaxy S23 Specifications

The Galaxy S23 Ultra will benefit from a slightly thinner chin than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, and two of its rear sensors will be integrated directly into the body of the smartphone. Moreover, we know that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will measure 163.4 x 78.1 x 8.8 mm against 163.3 x 77.9 x 8.9 mm for the S22 Ultra.

For the rest, the design of the Galaxy S23 series will be very similar to what we already know. There won’t be an under-screen selfie camera like on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, so we’ll see the punch return. Photo blocks are often the elements that change the most between two generations, and this is confirmed in this generation. The three cameras of the Galaxy S23 and S23+ now come directly out of the back cover of the smartphone , and therefore now constitute three separate islands.

The dimensions will also be slightly different. OnLeaks announces that  the Galaxy S23 will measure 146.3 x 70.8 x 7.6 mm , compared to 146.0 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm for the Galaxy S22. Although the thickness remains the same, Samsung will make its smartphone slightly longer and wider . Against all expectations , the borders of the screen will therefore increase. For its part, the Galaxy S23 + should measure 157.7 x 76.1 x 7.6 mm , against 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.64 mm for the Galaxy S22 +. Like its smaller brother, the smartphone is therefore also 0.3 mm longer, but its width also increases by 0.3 mm. The borders could therefore thicken by 0.15 mm on each side.

The three smartphones will be unsurprisingly IP68 certified and will therefore be resistant to water and dust.

Samsung uses the usual display technologies for this S23 series. We thus find Dynamic AMOLED 2X screens compatible with HDR10 + and offering a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz on all models, as has been the case since the Galaxy S21. The definition of the screens does not change either: 2340 × 1080 pixels (Full HD +) for the Galaxy S23 and S23 +, 3088 × 1440 pixels (Quad HD +) on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. For sizes, it is also a classic:

  • Galaxy S23: 6.1 inches
  • Galaxy S23+: 6.6 inches
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra: 6.8 inches

The Galaxy S23 Ultra should once again be the only model to feature an LTPO 2.0 display, which will allow it to dynamically vary its refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz to adapt to the content displayed, and thus save a little of battery.

Under the screen, Samsung should equip its S23 Ultra with a new ultrasonic fingerprint reader, Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Max, already seen on the . This is faster and wider than other sensors, and can even register a fingerprint with a single press. It also supports a security mode requiring two fingerprints at the same time.
